The Santa Clara County Peace and Freedom Party is the local chapter of the PFP, the only socialist party on the California ballot. In the 2016 election, PFP ran socialist activist Gloria La Riva and American Indian Movement co-founder Dennis Banks for president and vice president.
Local PFP members have in recent years been active in the anti-war and other social justice movements including immigrant rights and Black Lives Matter, supported Pastors for Peace aid caravans to Cuba and worked for normalized relations with that besieged island nation, joined the struggle of hotel workers to win union recognition, and helped in promoting proportional representation in elections.
The PFP, founded in 1967, is committed to socialism, democracy, a sustainable environment, and gender and racial equality. We seek to represent the working class, those without capital in a capitalist society. We organize toward a world where cooperation replaces competition, a world where all people are well fed, clothed and housed; where all human beings have equal status; where all individuals may freely endeavor to fulfill their own talents and desires; a world of freedom and peace where every community retains its cultural integrity and lives with all others in harmony.
