On June 11, I started my internship at the San Jose Peace and Justice Center. To say the least, I was apprehensive; living in the privileged bubble of Almaden Valley, I felt like I would not have enough experience to contribute to this amazing center. I am grateful to report that nearly a month after starting, I have already felt like I have been able to make huge contributions to the center. Whether it be from updating our weekly newsletter to inform you about our events or assisting with the community dinner, it has been so gratifying to work with a team so passionate about social justice and improving our South Bay community.
To any and all high school or college students, community members or people passionate about social justice, volunteering with the SJPJC is a wonderful experience and one that I highly recommend. Volunteers and interns have the ability to choose what project areas they would like to work in from tabling at events to handling administrative tasks in the office to publicizing events through our social media handles. In addition, volunteers are given the resources to host their own events such as movie screenings, organization meetings and much more. Visit the Get Involved → Volunteer section of our website or fill out our volunteer form at http://tinyurl.com/sjpjcvolunteer.
