Like you, we were stunned at the outcome of the presidential election. As a result of it we've been presented with very big challenges, which naturally bring opportunities and responsibilities.
The need to protect the most vulnerable members of our community who are threatened with detention and deportation is a big concern. Our president Michelle Cordova has been representing us in a broad County-wide coalition, working with the Mexican Consulate and local agencies and non-profits on this issue. Interns from San Jose State come to our Center to participate in our Immigration Rights Project where they are trained to work with undocumented immigrants.
We also know that the Black & Brown Lives Matter movement, the movement against the oil pipelines, the Bernie campaign and the rise of Trump have galvanized huge numbers of young people. We are so fortunate to have the Collins House as a space and the Peace & Justice Center as a resource for all the groups currently using the building and the many new ones that will develop. Check out the large number of community partners listed in Peace Times and on our web site. We are building new alliances every day.
Our nearly 60-year history of opposing war and working for peace puts us in a unique position to educate the community about the system and to advocate for a peace economy with justice and equality for all.
But the truth is that we're short handed when it comes to all these responsibilities! So we're hoping that YOU will help us out. Not just with a donation, although we are happy to accept your tax-deductible contribution either via our web site or with a check in the enclosed envelope.
But we also need your involvement, your presence at our programs and rallies and your guidance as we move forward into the next era. Our Board meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month are open to all members and friends. Join us!
With warm greetings for a peaceful holiday season,
