The Cuba Caravan is back! This year's featured speaker will be Bill Hackwell with a special screening of a Saul Landau documentary on LGBTQ rights in Cuba.

Bill Hackwell is a widely published and exhibited social documentary photographer who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. The bulk of his work has focused on social change in the struggle against oppression in the U.S. and abroad. He has worked as the photographer for a number of non-profit and humanitarian aid groups working in many parts of the world.

He has been involved in Pastors for Peace projects since the earliest Caravan to Cuba in 1992. He has also participated as photographer for Pastors for Peace on several of its humanitarian aid projects to Chiapas where Pastors for Peace delivered critical humanitarian aid to the indigenous highland communities, including the historic march in 2001 from the jungles of Chiapas to Mexico City that pressed for the rights of Indigenous people. Bill is also an organizer with the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five in the US.


He is a frequent lecturer at universities and community colleges where he presents slides and speaks on Cuba, Chiapas and Argentina. More about him and his work can be found on his website at

The Cuba Caravan is organized by Pastors for Peace and delivers much needed aid to Cuba including medical supplies and educational materials and this year is focusing on constructional materials and bicycles.
