Screening of film "MISSING IN PAKISTAN"
followed by conversation with Dr. SAFDAR SARKI
presented by FRIENDS OF SOUTH ASIA
"Missing in Pakistan" is a short documentary by Ziad Zafar, an independent journalist and filmmaker. It was shot in Feb/March 2007 and highights one of the key causes of the judicial and political crisis in Musharaaf's Pakistan: the extra-legal disappearances of ordinary citizens at the hands of Military Intelligence. It reveals as well that the
average Pakistani citizen can easily draw a stark connection between US ideals and policy, with the realities of Pakistan. It is time we did the same here.
Dr. Safdar Sarki is an American of Pakistani descent, a campaigner for human rights and democracy in Pakistan and on rights of the Sindhi people. He was abducted in Karachi and held captive for more than 2 years by Pakistani intelligence agencies. He suffered severe abuse and torture during his detention. While he is free today, thousands of other ordinary Pakistanis still are "missing" and languish in Pakistani jails.
This event is sponsored by the San Jose Peace & Justice Center and Friends Of South Asia www.friendsofsouthasia.org
