February 9 - May 25
This is an opportunity to develop skills in interpersonal relations, small group communications, media outreach while helping to produce events that fosters social justice. This is a college class that engages participants in organizing and marketing the REELWORK May Day Labor Film Festival at the end of April.
REELWORK offers films about issues related to work, i.e. economic justice, discrimination, union organizing and environmental safety and health and much more. We learn how to work together, select films, contact potential speakers who are featured in the film, whose work is featured in the film or who actually helped creat the motion picture. The audience is invited to engage in discussions about the topics and hopefully inspire activism and build community.
This year we are examining films on moutain top removal, 911 forgotten demolitions heros, plant closures and takeovers, and honoring cannery workers from San Jose. We are open to suggestions and will be viewing films an discussing strategies with a number of social justice and cultural activists. Will be looking at how the rights of minorities, immigrants, women, and peace activists can contribute to an environment of social change in this time of climate change. Go to www.reelwork.org to see the many events that have occurred over the past nine years in the South Bay and Central Coast. For more info call (408)298-2181 Ext 2575 and find out how to Get To REELWORK!
